Baozhong, one of the oldest tea types in Taiwan, is probably the most unique tea type in the world. The reason for it being named "Baozhong" (包種) is interesting. Some say it is called "Baozhong" (包種) because of a typo from "Se Zhong" (色種), which means a special varietal that is different from the traditional varietal from Wu Yi (武夷), and people miswrote the two words.

Another more convincing, and well known in Japanese document, recorded that the name Baozhong was derived from the way in which tea merchants at that time packed their tea products with folding paper, because "Baozhong" in Han character literally "the type of tea that was packed." Furthermore, this is again, one of the most crucial points for Baozhong being classified as "Baozhong" in 19th century, is that it was a scented oolong tea with flowers such as osmanthus. Eventually, the old Baozhong evoluted to the modern Baozhong we are more familiar with today after the innovative process invented by tea masters in the 1910s, which made the new type of Baozhong no longer required to be scented with flower to carry a floral aroma.

The material of this "Frost Emerald" was harvested in mid of December, which is unusual for a Baozhong tea you normally will see in the market, and that fact made this tea carries a strong "Winter Rhythm" (冬片氣). Moreover, the material is one of the rarest varietals in the world called "Da Yeh Oolong," literally translated into "Large Leaf Oolong." This varietal is only seen and cultivated in Pinglin area (some in Luye as well), and is perfect for Baozhong processing. The overall character is very powerfully presented, and extremely unique.

This is the Baozhong that follows the tradition of proper processing. As a result, this Baozhong will be probably another best Baozhong Oolong you have ever tried before, and will age very well under the right condition without vacuum sealing storage.

Fresh, creamy, and an aroma that is out of this world.  Very green tea liquor and leaf.  This is a hyper-green Baozhong that is sweet and umami rolled into one.  Heavenly!

Beautifully layered baozhong with such rich sweet unctuous floral and oceanside grassy green vegetal taste. There is a lot of complexity in the body which at first seems to be light but then becomes more full and pungent at the same time. It has lovely perfume-like aroma that isn't too much on the nose. Feels fresh in the body, but actually isn't necessarily that green in its taste.

This is another Baozhong we are offering for this winter, and  an old dog is now crazy. This Baozhong is way too unique to the modern tea world. It carries a very sweet "sand pear" taste, a taste that an old dog cannot distinguish if its strong or soft. An old dog think that taste comes from the varietal itself, not simply for our unique processing. Maybe "delightful" is the only way to describe that unique and thick taste, and an old dog is certainly delight!
