Baigushan Organic "Sapphire of Pear" Oriental Beauty Oolong Tea - Summ

What shall a tea processing team do when there is a harvest of clean and high elevation Qing Xin Oolong material is available in the summer? The answer was to make it into an Oriental Beauty Oolong.

The last time we ever did this "trick" to a Qing Xin Oolong varietal from high elevation was back in the summer of 2019 when "Citrus Glow" was made along with "Citrus Night", and both teas performed fabulously after years of aging. Unfortunately, the collaboration with the plantation halted right after 2019. We did not have any chance of processing these teas after 2019 until we met the Su Family who grows the cleanest Qing Xin Oolong at a unprecedented elevation - 1950 meters above sea level. The advent of "Sapphire of Pear" is the return and continuation of that long-lost practice.

Interestingly, the owner of the plantation would like to participate in the processing of their material as well. Ms. Su had never processed her own tea before, least not the hardest processing method "Oriental Beauty" which involves the most exhausting labour possible. Naturally, we became her guide during the painstaking processing of this harvest. As we made our way through the dark midnight of the mountain valley, Ms. Su nearly fell asleep while doing the hand-big-waving stage but managed to finish her tea with us at 2:30 AM.

After the raw tea finally got refined with Master Zhuang's charcoal roast, we let the tea sit for over a month before putting it onto our shelf. "Sapphire of Pear" has a pear-like character as the name suggests whilst the body resembles a soft and tender black tea. You can see this tea as a big jump forward of "Citrus Glow" since three years has passed and more understanding of tea processing was made during this period. Enjoy!
