Ruifeng Organic Jin Xuan "Lily Hermit" Oolong Tea - Winter 2021Taiwan Sourcing
The Jin Xuan from Ruifeng area experienced a great reduction in production this season due to the lack of water in autumn and cool weather in winter. The sprouting of the buds was less lively than those from this spring. The exciting news is that we implemented our new processing method on this material, further pushing the boundary of the Jin Xuan varietal to a new realm.
"Lily Jade," "Lily Meadow," and "Lily Nectar" were all made from the Jin Xuan varietal grown at this plantation in the Meishan tea region, which is commonly known as Alishan area by the consumer market. This is the birth place of "high mountain jade oolong" trend back in the early 1980s. The now ubiquitous electric withering tray was also invented by the tea farmer in this area, so you could say that tea from the Meishan area is the origin of modern jade oolong. The family of Mr. Chen have been here for decades, tending to this beautiful plantation in Ruifeng village.
This Ruifeng Jin Xuan of this season went beyond our expectations thanks to the new processing. The tea is now even more "authentic" to its land and varietal rather than the "jade oolong" practice that is commonly encountered by people. It has a interesting combination of robust taste and mouthfeel, whilst delivering that familiar "Morinaga Milk Caramel" aroma in the nostril. If you are searching for a new expression of high mountain oolong tea, our "Lily" series from the Ruifeng area will bring a whole new dimension to your understanding.

Although an old dog prefers a more "matured" taste from a tea as age goes by, this "Lily Jade" was not created out of meaningless curiosity or pure pursuit of creating an unconventional teas. Instead, we created this tea to explore the possibility of traditional processing and observe what result it could be. To be honest, an old dog was a little bit worried at the beginning since this was the first time doing this, but the result turned out beautifully.
